Mental Health Friendly Activities for one

I know what it feels like to fear alone time. Worrying about how you will fill up all the time before the overthinking starts. It sucks, but it doesn’t have to be that way! It is possible to be alone and have a good time.

This post is all about 7 mental health-friendly activities for one.

Table for one please!

1. Have a full self-care day

Treat yourself to a spa day, and if you don’t want to go out, have a little home pampering session. Grab your softest pj’s and a robe, and get showered and lotioned. Then you can do a manicure or pedicure. These are my favorite days to self-tan and do a hair mask. But what truly makes it a self-care day (to me) is lying around, reading, and watching my favorite shows.

2. Visit the library or a bookstore

If you are a bookworm like me, this is the best way to spend some of your free time. I love buying new books at the bookstore, even when my shelves are EXTREMELY full, with books pending to be read. So, on second thought, the library is a better choice for those who don’t want to spend a bunch of money.

3. Drive to the beach

If you live near a beach, take a drive there, regardless of the weather. Pack yourself some snacks and a blanket. You don’t even have to get out of your car if that makes you uncomfortable. Sometimes just taking a drive can help you feel better and less bored.

4. Go out to lunch

If you ask me, going to lunch by yourself is less intimidating than dinner. At dinner time, restaurants can be more busy and crowded. This can be nerve-wracking to sit through by yourself. Going to lunch can be much easier because it’s more on the low-stakes side.

5. Clean out your car

I LOVE the feeling of having a clean car, or room. Any space that is mine always feels better when it’s clean. I know I can’t be the only one who feels this way, right??

6. Learn to crochet

Okay, I’ll admit I added this in because this is my current hobby. And…I’m obsessed.

7.  Volunteer to help someone

Helping others can reflect greatly on our mood and self-image. Even if it does not feel like it in the moment, you may feel just a little bit better afterward. I enjoy helping my mom around the house or asking my grandparents if they need any help. But you can always take the time to sign up as a volunteer somewhere, which may bring a lot more satisfaction.

I know that hanging out alone is not always ideal and sometimes can leave you feeling VERY upset or uncomfortable. Use these ideas as a starting point to fill your alone time with joy!

In my opinion, my favorite way to spend alone time is with a hobby. It’s always fun to pick up a new hobby as well. Beware: they accumulate quickly LOL. I started with reading, went to blogging, then fictional writing, and now crocheting. I’m obsessed with it all. Of course, my obsessions ebb and flow but each of those activities have stayed pretty consistent on my hobby list lately.

And…a lovely reminder, we don’t have to be good at our hobbies, they are meant to be fun!!!

Thank you for reading my post! I hope to see you here again soon. <3
